POLITICS OF INDIA
Politics has been an integral part of our country since time immemorial. Even the civilizations of Harappa and Moen-jo-Daro needed leaders to keep petty fights and issues from escalating. Kings of the Kingdoms in India had always had to perform the task of able administrators to keep the people from turning against the Kings.
Politics of today's India came into existence back in 1885 when the Indian National Congress was founded by a British civil servant, A.O.Hume to start a movement for the independence of India. Back then, it consisted of mainly Britishers. Even for our own independence movement, we were dependent on the British. The birth of modern day politics in India is largely due to the efforts of one man- Dr.B.R.Ambedkar. The first law minister of independent India is also known as the father of our constitution. Our constitution is an amalgamation of the world's oldest constitutions like Magna Carta of Britain, Constitution of USA, Canada, etc. Apart from these, he and his team had to consider the fact that most of India was poor and backward economically. Creating opportunities for them meant that our constitution had to become the world's longest, about which we all are very proud of. But this constitution seldom works today! The quota for underprivileged was introduced to make sure they come up the economic ladder. But today not everyone have. During the speech on 26th November 1949, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar had mentioned that this model of the quota system must be done away with after 20 years. Within 20 years, he expected most of the underprivileged to have come up the ladder, to be on par with the middle class Brahmin community. But even after 63 years of the Republic of India (a name by which we never call ourselves as we use India often), this has not happened. Has anyone of us thought of it? Why have we not achieved such a simple target of economic development, even though the population was not as big as this?
The answer again is connected with Dr.B.R.Ambedkar. The clause of multi-party democracy along with the quota system has spoiled the country. Each and everyday a political party is being started on the line of linguistic, religion, caste and sub-caste. We are being divided on this basis. Do we know how? I do not think so!
We have to blame ourselves for this.We literates do not vote and think voting is too mainstream.We study here and fly out as soon as possible to settle down abroad and work there. We fail to realize that we are working like slaves for another country. This is modern slavery and colonization! Quota system coupled with corruption has denied entry to the talented an deserving candidates in many fields. All this can eradicated by us! we should stop ruing about these and start acting. Engineering and Doctor does not alone earn you money and respect. Being a politician also does. Be a politician. Change the face of the nation for the good for good.
